Hoedspruit is strategically located central to several diverse habitats with an large array of 500+ bird species. Grab your binoculars, a reference book – or even better a bird-app – and just go and have fun birding.
The HWE is absolutely safe to explore on your own. You’ll find bird hides at Heron dam – only a few minutes walk away from LALA LODGE – as well as at Hamerkop dam further east in the Estate.

„Magnification x Diameter“
For example „10×42“ – 10x magnification power with a lens diameter of 42mm.
8x or 10x is a good magnification power for safaris. Greater than 10 makes steady viewing difficult. 32 to 42mm diameter allows enough light to come through. Larger than 42mm means too much glass and therefore too much weight.
